Tigertail Beach and Lagoon are part of the Collier County Parks system.   The lagoon is easily accessible from the main parking lot although some of the better birding requires that you either wade across the lagoon ( preferrably at low tide) or take a twenty minute walk around the lagoon to the south and then along the gulf beach until you reach the lagoon on the west side.  The gulf side beach is full of shorebirds and the walk to the north will end at an area call Sand Dollar Island.  This is deemed a Critical Wildlife Area and is often roped off to protect either shorebird nests or sea turtle nests depending on the season.  That doesn't mean you can't see the birds, just be respectful, don't enter the roped off area and enjoy the walk.  The lagoon is home to many wading species both resident and migrant .  Shorebirds also feed on the lagoon shoreline and the best time is a rising tide.
